Bathinda, January 10

The suspense over the new Bathinda (Urban) Congress president is over as Arun Wadhawan has been given the responsibility. He has replaced Mohan Lal Jhumba.

Arun Wadhawan is the confident of the Finance Minister and MLA from Bathinda (Urban), Manpreet Singh Badal, and has been associated with the party for a long time.

His father Jeetmal is also a loyal Congress man and had been a councillor as well. Wadhawan is also secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.

He was also made member of the state Congress manifesto committee ahead of the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections.

The Bathinda (Urban) seat has been traditionally held by a Hindu candidate due to a large number of Hindu votes in this Assembly segment.

Last year, Bathinda Tribune had reported regarding Arun Wadhawan being the frontrunner for the Bathinda (Urban) Congress president post in the city.

Congress youth leader Khushbaz Singh Jattana has been appointed Bathinda (Rural) Congress president. He unsuccessfully contested the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections from Talwandi Sabo.

Both leaders claim of strengthening the party and making it stronger in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
