137 students leave Mullana

AMBALA: A few more students from Jammu and Kashmir left the campus of Maharishi Markandeshwar Deemed to be University (MMDU) at Mullana for their native places on Tuesday.

A few more students from Jammu and Kashmir left the campus of Maharishi Markandeshwar Deemed to be University (MMDU) at Mullana for their native places on Tuesday.

Sources said around 137 students left the place till evening. Around 110 students, who were staying in Mullana village, were shifted to hostels. There were around 400 students hailing from Kashmir.

Meanwhile, heavy police force was deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Gagandeep Singh, GM Roadways Ambala, said: “So far, 137 students have left the campus and nearly 270 students are still here. Security is in place.”

A student said: “We are going to Ambala Cantonment by bus and from there, we will board another bus for Chandigarh. We are leaving for a few days as our parents are a little worried.”

Mullana SHO said: “Nearly 200 police personnel have been deployed at the MMDU.”

Barara DSP Sudhir Taneja said: “The situation is peaceful and students have been leaving after due permission from the university.”

Irfan, a Kashmiri student, claimed: “I have reached Kashmir. As far as I know a lot of students, a teacher and a lab technician, have left for Kashmir.” — TNS
