Chandigarh: Two juveniles were apprehended for snatching a mobile phone and a purse from a person.



Chandigarh: Two juveniles were apprehended for snatching a mobile phone and a purse from a person. Complainant Rajesh, a resident of Mauli Complex, had reported that three unknown persons snatched his mobile phone and purse near Railway Colony at Mauli Jagran village on February 9. Later, two juveniles, aged 14 and 16, were apprehended in the case. Both of them were sent to Juvenile Home, Sector 25. TNS

Man killed in road mishap

Zirakpur: A 55-year-old man died after he was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle on Zirakpur-Patiala stretch near AKM resort here on Sunday. The deceased was yet to be identified, said the police. The police said they received information about the incident around 7.30 am on Sunday. The police said the victim, who was hit by an unidentified vehicle, was rushed to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh. The victim later succumbed to his injuries. The body has been kept in the mortuary for identification. Further probe is on. OC

Dowry: Husband, in-laws arrested

Zirakpur: The police here on Sunday registered a dowry harassment case against the in-laws and husband of a woman.  Baljit Kaur, a resident of Mansa, told the police that she was married to Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Zirakpur, last December. She alleged that her in-laws and husband Sukhwinder Singh had been harassing her for dowry. She alleged physically assault by her In-laws and husband. Going by the statement of the woman, the police have registered a case against husband Sukhwinder Singh, his mother Darshna Kaur and father  Fauja Singh under Sections 34, 323 and 498-A of the IPC. One booked for harassing woman

Chandigarh: The UT police have booked a Panchkula resident for harassing and threatening a woman on social media. According to the police, the victim, a resident of Mani Majra, alleged that Ram Avtar harassed and threatened her through emails and by sending her messages on social media. The victim approached the police following which a case under Section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act has been registered at the Mani Majra police station. Sonia to judge int’l boxing meet  

Chandigarh: Dr Sonia Kanwar, assistant professor SGGS College Sector 26, has been nominated as referee/judge in the Elite Women International Boxing Championship, to be held at Sofia (Bulgaria) from February 13 to 20. Earlier, she had represented the nation in the 3rd Asian Women Boxing Championship, at Kaohsiung (Taiwan) from August 3 to 7 and also officiated in the 6th Asian Women Boxing Championship, at Mongolia. She qualified her AIBA-II star examination, at Manado in 2018. TNS

Bodybuilding C’ship on Feb 17 

Mohali: Mohali Amateur Body Building & Fitness Association will organise 7th Mr Mohali, 2nd Classic Mr Mohali and 5th Mr Kurali Body Building Championships, on February 17, at Vishwakarma (Kurali). The weighing-in and pre-judging will be held on the same day from 10am to 12pm. The final pose down will start from 1pm. The event will be held in the weight categories—55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg , above 85kg. TNS

Rural sports meet from today 

Chandigarh: The UT Sports Department will organise the first ever Rural U-19 Sports Meet at the newly constructed Sarangpur Sports Complex, from February 11 to 13. Players from 21 government schools will participate in different events, including athletics, wrestling, volleyball, kabaddi and kho kho. The first three winners of each event will bag a cash award of Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 750, respectively. The overall sports performance of three schools in the order of merit will also be acknowledged. Refreshment and sports kits will be provided by the organisers, while Sadhu Singh, Sarpanch of Sarangpur village, said that all the players will be given free milk. TNS

Black Panthers with ACL-2 CUp 

Panchkula: Black Panthers defeated Sky Walkers by 29 runs to win the ACL-2 Championship, concluded on Sunday. Batting first, Black Panthers posted 131/6 in 20 overs. Kapil (32) and Rajesh Bedi (31) remained the two main run scorers. Nishant and Lavi claimed two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, Skywalkers posted 102 runs before getting all-out in 18.2 overs. Nishant (27) was the main contributor in the chase. He was ably supported by Vijay (22). Hari Om and Saurabh Batra claimed two wickets each. Hari was declared Man of the Match. TNS

Sonu, Gina win laurels 

Chandigarh: Sonu Sharma and Gina Gill were adjudged best athletes (MBBS) on the concluding day of the 26th Annual Athletics Meet of Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), on Sunday. In BSc category Simranjeet Singh and Dency were named best athletes. Meanwhile, in the shotput event, Varnika Punia and Navkiran claimed the top positions. In discus throw, Deepinder and Saloni, while in javelin throw Paras and Simranjeet Singh claimed top spots.  TNS

P&H defeat Knight Fighters 

Chandigarh: In the ongoing 5th Champions Corporate Cricket League, P&H Advocates defeated Knight Fighters XI by six wickets. Batting first, Knight Fighters XI posted 101 runs before getting all-out in 18.2 overs. Ravi Sharma (44) was the only main scorer for the side. Karan was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3/10. In reply, P&H Advocates posted 102/4 in 14.5 overs. TNS
