Dealership scam: Five suspects sent to judicial custody

Five suspects arrested by the Cyber Cell of the Mohali police in the fake petrol pump dealership case were sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court.

The accused have been identified as Mahinder Singh, Brahm Prakash Shukla, Jatinder Singh, Asif Khan, and Akash Singh.

According to the police, the gang used to target people in the name of giving petrol pump dealership and their modus operandi was to publish online advertisements regarding petrol pump dealerships in states such as MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, UP, Bangalore, Manipur, Assam and Karnataka. The gang used to defraud people by making them deposit money into various bank accounts.

Police officials said a Scorpio car, Rs4.90 lakh cash, two laptops, mobile phones and SIM cards were recovered from them. The accused had 21 accounts in various banks. The amount of Rs2.50 lakh in these accounts had been freezed, they added. A case was registered in this regard under Sections 406, 419, 420, 465, 467, 471 of the IPC at the Mataur police station on May 15. — TNS
