History-sheeter held with gun, live cartridge

Chandigarh, August 12

A Sector 52 resident, who has at least seven cases registered against him in different states, was arrested by the UT police while possessing a shot gun and a live cartridge.

According to the police, the suspect has been identified as Rinku. He was arrested near the T-point in Sector 53.

During search, a single-barrel gun, along with one live cartridge of .12 bore, was recovered from him. He did not have any licence or permit for the weapon, following which a case under the Arms Act was registered against him at the Sector 36 police station.

During investigation, it came to light that the suspect was a history-sheeter. His name figured on the list of bad characters at the Sector 36 police station. The police said cases of rioting, extortion, theft and drugs were already registered against Rinku. His interrogation revealed that he had kept the weapon for committing crimes, especially property-related.

The suspect was produced in court, which sent him to judicial custody. — TNS
