Prof Jagat Ram, Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, inaugurated a new Cath Lab Cios Alpha Portable in the Advanced Cardiac Centre, PGI, on Friday.
The lab will be primarily used for pacemaker and devices procedures, electrophysiology and ablation, peripheral angiography, angioplasty and pulmonary thrombo-embolism procedures and other emergency procedures.
Prof Yash Paul Sharma, Head, Department of Cardiology, said the lab would benefit more cardiac patients by decreasing the waiting list and efficient patient care.
“The department has two other labs, which are providing great benefits to the patients suffering from coronary artery disease for performing complex coronary angioplasty and for structural heart disease,” he said.
He said the department was in the process of procuring two advanced integrated cath labs that would be beneficial for patients with complex coronary and complex structural cardiac procedures.
After the Cath Lab inauguration, a tree plantation drive was carried out by the Director, along with faculty members of the cardiology and cardiovascular thoracic surgery.
