The couple, living on the top floor of the house, demanded Rs1 lakh from Rita, who resides on the ground floor. When she refused to give the money, the duo hit her on the head and the left arm with an air gun and fled the spot after locking the door from outside. Vinit Narayan, a carpenter/interior designer by profession, was staying with Kajal as a couple at the house for the past around three months. Vinit also brought two girls along with him claiming them to be his sisters, the police said.

Police officials said Vinit was without work during the pandemic and the house rent was also pending. Kajal also needed money for her medical treatment and other expenses. The duo, who came to know that the complainant had cash at home, tried to threaten her with the air gun. When she refused to give money, they hit her with the butt of the gun and fled the spot. After the incident, they also switched off their mobile phone.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Kajal was already married and was staying in a live-in relationship with Vinit. The two girls, who were staying with them, were daughters of Kajal, said the police, adding that the couple had no criminal record.
