Chandigarh, December 22

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion to the Union Territory of Chandigarh, through its Home Secretary, on a petition against the dismissal of plea for supplying a copy of an order/judgment in “Hindi”.

The notice by Justice Rajbir Sehrawat came on a petition filed by Guriqbal Singh through counsel Naveen Kaushik. Relying upon the provisions contained in Sections 354 and 363 of the CrPC, the counsel submitted that the petitioner was entitled to get a copy of the order/judgment passed by the court in the “language of the Court”. For the Union Territory of Chandigarh, “Hindi”, “Punjabi” and “Urdu” had been declared “the languages of the Court under the High Court Rules and Orders”. As such, his prayer for supply of a copy of the order/judgment in “Hindi” had wrongly been dismissed. The case will now come up for hearing on April 29, 2022.
