Dera Bassi: The police arrested a thief and recovered three stolen motorcycles from him here on Sunday. The Mubarikpur police arrested Vicky, a resident of Dera Bassi, while riding a stolen motorcycle. The police later recovered two more motorcycles on his disclosure. A case has been registered at the Mubarikpur police post. OC

21 arrested with drugs in august

Ambala: The police arrested 21 persons and recovered narcotics and drugs from them during August, an official said here on Monday. The arrests and seizures were made during the ongoing drive against drugs in the district. The recovered drugs included 144.43-gm smack, 2-kg charas, 6.7-kg ganja, 7.5-gm sulfa and 2,625 intoxicant tablets. TNS

Saplings distributed 

Ambala: The District Legal Services Authority on Monday distributed 600 saplings as prasad at Hathikhana Temple in Ambala Cantonment. Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-secretary DLSA Danish Gupta said, “For the protection of environment, the DLSA has provided saplings in a form of prasad to all the people visiting the temple. We appeal residents to plant a sapling and look after it to protect environment.” TNS

Career fest organised

Chandigarh: Vivek High School, Chandigarh, organised a “Career Fest 2019”on Monday  wherein Indian and international universities apprised students of opportunities. Class IX to XII students attended the event along with their parents which included interaction with experts from reputed institutes. Students were encouraged to build profiles, avail scholarships, understand admission process and courses offered by various universities. Renu Puri, principal, Vivek High School, said, “Through career fest, we provide students requisite knowledge to make informed choices.” TNS

Rainwater harvesting 

Chandigarh: Ashiana Public School sensitised students to conserve natural resources by implementing rainwater harvesting system which feeds into eight strategically located water tanks on the school premises. The school managed to save upto 4,000 litre rainwater. The same water was being used to clean premisis and watering plants, among others. This initiative would go a long way by inculcating a sense of responsibility among students towards environment. School director Lalita Prakash asked students to save water and shared water saving with them. TNS

UniversuMM -19 to start on Sept 8  

Ambala: The four-day national youth festival “UniversuMM 2019” would be held from September 8 to 11 at Maharishi Markandeshwar Deemed to be University, Mullana. Over 5,000 contestants from more than 200 universities and colleges would participate in the event. The events would be divided into different categories, including cultural, sports, technology, management and health education. TNS

Three held on assault charge

Ambala: The police have arrested three persons for assaulting and threatening a local resident with dire consequences, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, Shivam, Rakesh and Rahul, all residents of Ambala City, were arrested on the complaint of Budh Sain of Ambala City, who had accused them of assaulting and threatening him with dire consequences here on August 30. The suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to 14-day judicial custody. TNS

Threat call from Pak, says ATF chief

Ambala: The police have registered a case against unknown persons for making a threat call to Anti Terrorist Front’s (ATF) national president Viresh Shandilaya, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, Shandilaya, who is also the national pracharak of Shri Hindu Takht, reported to the DGP that on August 19 night, he got a call on his mobile phone from a Pakistan number and the caller threatened to eliminate him and his family in a bomb blast for speaking against Pakistan and Hafeez Sayeed. The police have registered an FIR under Section 506 of the IPC. TNS

Awareness on eye donation

Chandigarh: An awareness campaign on eye donation was organised at Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital by a team of doctors from the PGI here on Monday. Sandeep Puri, Principal of the college, said the campaign was organised to observe national fortnight on eye donation. The team showed films/slides/CDs to promote eye donation as India had a less number of eye donations. “Every person can donate eyes as age is no bar and eyes can be donated within 6 to 8 hours after death,” stated the team. The campaign was attended by staff and students of the college. TNS
