Victim’s family gets over ~36-lakh relief

CHANDIGARH: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of over Rs 36 lakh to the family of a Kishangarh resident, Neem Bahadur, who was killed in an accident.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of over Rs 36 lakh to the family of a Kishangarh resident, Neem Bahadur, who was killed in an accident.

The tribunal has directed the insurance firm concerned and the owner and the driver of the vehicle to pay the compensation to the victim’s family.

 According to the claim petition, Neem Bahadur, then 48, was killed in an accident. He is survived by his wife Neelu (39), son Vijay (21) and two daughters Asha (18) and Salomi (15). It was stated in the application that the victim was working as a mill operator in Bhushan Power and Steel Limited, CR Division, Industrial Area, Chandigarh, and was earning Rs 25,200 per month.

The accident took place  on November 7, 2017, when  the victim was going for his duty (night shift) on an Activa scooter. When he reached the Industrial Area, Chandigarh, an Eicher truck came from the CTU light point at a high speed and hit a car and then the Activa of the victim. The vicitm suffered serious injuries. 

He was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries the next day. 

The tribunal awarded a compensation of Rs 36,30,700 to the family of the deceased. The tribunal directed  National Insurance Company Limited,  along with the owner and the driver of the vehicle, to jointly pay the compensation.
