Youngster arrested for stalking ex-wife

CHANDIGARH: A 25-year-old Mohali resident has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly stalking and outraging the modesty of his former wife in Sector 11. The accused also snatched the victim’s mobile phone.

A 25-year-old Mohali resident has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly stalking and outraging the modesty of his former wife in Sector 11. The accused also snatched the victim’s mobile phone.

According to the police, the suspect, a resident of Sunny Enclave, Kharar, had married the woman, who is pursuing BSc from a college in Chandigarh. They had a love marriage. However, later they got divorced.

The police said the woman, who is residing in a rented accommodation at Sector 11, alleged that he was following her for the past several months. On May 19, she was returning home from her friend’s house when he started stalking her. He intercepted her near her accommodation.

The woman objected to it, following which he thrashed her and snatched her mobile phone. 

A passerby intervened and called the Police Control Room following which a PCR vehicle was rushed to the spot and the suspect was apprehended.

The police got the victim’s medical examination conducted, which confirmed assault. The police recovered the victim’s mobile phone from his possession.

A case under Sections 341 354, 354-D, 323  and 382 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 11 police station. 

He was arrested and produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody.
