Amritsar, April 17
A dispute over village pond water entering in several houses led to firing in Kotla Doom village that falls under Rajasansi police station. Two persons have sustained injuries. They have been admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
Gurdev Singh, a resident of the village, accused sarpanch Nishan Singh of firing. Nishan Singh has rubbished the allegations. The police said an investigation was under way. Gurdev Singh stated to the police that the dirty water of the village pond had been entering several houses so he had asked the sarpanch to get the problem rectified. He alleged that the sarpanch did not bother. “Today also the pond water entered some of the houses. When I asked Nishan Singh about it, he brought several persons and fired at us. I along with Gurwinder Singh of Pandori village got injured and the accused fled,” he said.
Nishan Singh, while refuting the allegations, said Gurdev, along with his accomplices, was trying to forcibly occupy the land of the village pond. “For this, Gurdev had called several armed persons to my place. When I opposed, they opened firing. I was also injured in firing,” he maintained.
Bharat Bhushan, SHO, Rajasansi police station, said the matter was under investigation and statements of both the groups were being registered. Further investigation is under progress, he added. — TNS
