Illegal mining reported in Sirhind canal

BATHINDA: Illegal mining was reported in Sirhind canal at Poohla village.

Illegal mining was reported in Sirhind canal at Poohla village. The police seized four tractors filled with sand from the spot.

A case under the Mining Act has been registered against unidentified persons on the basis of a complaint filed by a sub-divisional officer (SDO), Mandeep Singh, who spotted the extracting of sand from the canal.

In the complaint, it has been stated that unidentified persons were extracting sand from the empty bed of the canal at Poohla village and were filling it in the tractor.

Four tractors have been seized from the spot and it is learned that the persons concerned fled from the spot.

A case under sections 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 21 of the Mineral and Mining Act, 1957, has been registered against unidentified persons at the Nathana police station.

The police have started a probe into the incident.
