Allay Kashmiri students’ fears, says Mohali DC

In the wake of incidents of reported harassment of Kashmiri students after the Pulwama terror attack, the Mohali Deputy Commissioner has directed the authorities of all private and government colleges and other educational institutions to hold special meetings with Kashmiri students to imbibe a sense of security and safety among them. 

Seeking a report from the authorities in this regard, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra issued a circular in which she stated that there was no law and order issue in the district, which should mitigate any panic or fear in the minds of Kashmiri students studying in educational institutions in the district. “Still, all chairmen/principals/registrars/hostel wardens of all government and private educational institutions here are directed to hold special meetings with Kashmiri students and allay fear, if any, in their minds so that they can focus on their studies,” said Sapra.

She said she had also sought reports on details of all such meetings from the educational authorities.

Over 1,500 Kashmiri students are studying in various colleges and other educational institutions in the district. 

100 more leave for J&K

Meanwhile,  Kashmiri students, who have come to Mohali from other parts of the region, are being sent to their homes under security from here. On Thursday, nearly 100 Kasmiri students were sent in four tempo-travellers from Gurdwara Sacha Dhan at Phase 3B1. A religious outfit, Khalsa Aid, has been making all arrangements in this regard while the Mohali police have been providing security to the students up to the Punjab-Jammu border. According to sources, so far nearly 330 Kashmiri students have been sent home from Mohali.
