The police have arrested the prime accused of an acid attack case, in which a a 31-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries. Bike-borne men threw acid on her on October 4. Accused Moti, a resident of Hansi, was arrested from Neelkanth, Uttarakhand. He was on Saturday produced before a court that sent him to five-day police custody.
The other two accused, Arun and Nitin, also residents of Hansi, had already been arrested. SP Ashok Kumar said, “Moti, who was hiding in an ashram, was arrested from Neelkanth on Friday. On a tip-off, a raid was conducted and he was arrested. The accused had attempted to escape to Mauritius through Nepal, but failed to produce the mandatory NOC from India at the Nepal airport and came back to India. He stayed in Haridwar for a day and then took shelter in the ashram.”
During questioning, the accused claimed that he developed friendly relations with the victim while they were studying. He said he wanted to marry her, but the family was not ready as they were relatives. He claimed that they got married in the court, but failed to produce any document. — TNS
