Country’s tallest Ravana effigy in P’kula draws crowds

PANCHKULA:A large number of people have started thronging the Sector 5 ground near Shalimar Mall here after the 210-foot-tall effigy of Ravana was erected for public viewing by the Mata Mansa Devi Charitable Trust this morning.

A large number of people have started thronging the Sector 5 ground near Shalimar Mall here after the 210-foot-tall effigy of Ravana was erected for public viewing by the Mata Mansa Devi Charitable Trust this morning.

After the news spread that the country’s tallest effigy of Ravana has been erected at the Sector 5 ground here, people from all walks of life started reaching the site to view the effigy prepared at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. Young boys and girls could be seen taking selfies with the effigy.

Tejinder Chauhan of Barara near Ambala, along with his team, took 5 months to make the effigy.

Tejinder said he had been making effigies since 1987 and the effigy made by him in 2009 found place in the Limca Book of Records in 2011.

A special crane was used to erect the 4-tonne effigy. Bamboo, steel, cloth, jute bags and 1.5 quintal fibre had been used in the construction of the effigy.

Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu Goel, chairman, Mata Mansa Devi Charitable Trust, said a ‘Hasya Kavi’ sammelan would be organised on October 15, while Durga Rangeela, Manak Ali and Shaminder Shammi would regale the audience on October 16, 17 and 19, respectively. Artiste who would perform on October 18 would be finalised in a day or two.
