CHANDIGARH:DAV College, Sector 10, beat Hindustan College, Chennai, by five wickets in a low-scoring encounter to win the 2019 Red Bull National Campus Cricket Championship at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday.

Chandigarh, May 18 

DAV College, Sector 10, beat Hindustan College, Chennai, by five wickets in a low-scoring encounter to win the 2019 Red Bull National Campus Cricket Championship at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday. The side will now represent India in the World Finals, scheduled o be held in November. 

Opting to bat, Hindustan College could only manage 108/9 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, DAV boys reached home in 19.2 overs with five wickets to spare.

Earlier, in the semifinals, DAV College had beat Alfala University, Delhi, while Hindustan College got the better of MMCC, Pune. 

DAV College skipper Dev Yadav was named the Best Bowler of the tournament for picking up 10 wickets, while his teammate Akhil Kumar was adjudged the Best Batsman. Akhil scored a total of 198 runs in the championship.

The tournament had commenced with the city qualifiers in February. Two regional finals were held in each zone and the winners of each regional final competed at the Red Bull Campus Cricket India final, held in Jaipur from May 13-17. 

It commenced with eight college teams from across the four different zones in the qualifier round.

Red Bull athlete and No. 1 ODI batswoman Smriti Mandhana and Rajasthan Royals head coach Paddy Upton, batting coach Amol Muzumdar, bowling coach Sairaj Bahutale and young batsman Riyan Parag were present at the National Finals. 

“I am so excited to be here. Red Bull Campus Cricket (RBCC) is one such tournament that has given us players like KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Niroshan Dickwella amongst others. We are sure to find many more in this tournament and for the years to come,” said Mandhana. 

Upton said: “This association is an apt way to discover raw talents while testing them in different matches at the national level and finally pitching them into international games to polish these talented individuals and bring the best out of them.”
