Panchkula, October 15

Chander Mohan, Congress candidate from the Panchkula Assembly constituency, got a major boost after Independent candidate Gurtej Singh announced to withdraw in his favour. Former INLD councillor Amarjeet Singh also joined the Congress today.

Gurtej said people were continuously raising their voice against BJP candidate Gian Chand Gupta due to anti-people policies of the BJP. So he, along with hundreds of his supporters, decided to support Chander Mohan.

Amarjit Singh, who has a stronghold in Ward No. 19, also joined the party. Chander Mohan thanked both leaders for their support and said they would be given full respect in the party.

People of Sector 20 apprised Chander Mohan of the perpetual problem of traffic jam in Sector 20 and 12-A every day due to the National Highway. He said BJP MLA Gian Chand Gupta had failed to solve the problems of people. He had promised that after becoming an MLA, he would get a flyover constructed between Sector 12-A and 20 so that people do not have to remain stuck in traffic jams.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders such as former Himachal minister Ram Lal Thakur, former Haryana minister Dharampal Malik and Mohali District Congress president Deepender Singh Dhillon campaigned for Chander Mohan and sought votes for him.

Ram Lal Thakur and Deepender Dhillon visited various places and appealed for votes in favour of Chander Mohan. Ram Lal Thakur also apprised Chander Mohan of a demand from the people of Himachal Pradesh that they need a bhawan in Panchkula just like in Chandigarh for their stay.

The Congress leader promised that he would get a site allotted for Himachal Bhawan on a priority basis and help get it constructed. He also mentioned that a similar request was there from the people of Uttarakhand. They would also have their bhawan, after the Congress comes to power.

Former Panchkula Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia and senior Congress leader Dhanendra Ahluwalia also campaigned in favour of Chander Mohan at Kundi village. The two bolstered his election campaign in an emphatic manner.
