Mohali, April 22

While the police have failed to get any vital clue about the suspect in the rape of a woman in a cab here, the Punjab State Women Commission (PSWC) has directed the local police authorities to expedite the inquiry into the case.

Taking a cognisance of the negligence of the police official in the case, PSWC chairperson Manisha Gulati also directed the police authorities to take stern departmental action against the Station House Officer (SHO) concerned, who has been placed under suspension for failing to act promptly on the complaint.

Notably, apart from putting Inspector Daljeet Singh, who was the SHO of the Sohana police station, where the case was registered, the police have also booked him under Section 166-A of the IPC at the police station here.

The chairperson also met with the victim today to inquire about her. Later, she summoned Mohali SP (City) Harwinder Singh Virk and others to inquire about the incident and the progress made in it. She also instructed the officials to provide the best possible medical and legal aid to the victim and assured her that the commission would take care of her rehabilitation.

It is pertinent to mention that the victim, in her complaint, had stated that the suspect picked her from Sector 68 on the morning of April 15 on the pretext of a lift and took her to Sector 67 where he first raped her. The suspect then took her to a secluded place in Sector 79/80 where he again tried to rape her but she managed to come out of the car. The victim then called the police control room and reached the Sohana police station with her husband.

‘Provide best possible medical, legal aid’

PSWC chairperson Manisha Gulati summoned Mohali SP (City) Harwinder Singh Virk and others to inquire about the incident and the progress made in it. She also instructed the officials to provide the best possible medical and legal aid to the victim and assured her that the commission would take care of her rehabilitation.
