Shobha Yatra on Valmiki Jayanti

PHAGWARA: To celebrate ‘Valmiki Jayanti’, a ‘Shobha Yatra’, was taken out here on Tuesday evening. The ‘Yatra’ commenced from Valmiki Chowk and culminated from where it began.

PHAGWARA: To celebrate ‘Valmiki Jayanti’, a ‘Shobha Yatra’, was taken out here on Tuesday evening. The ‘Yatra’ commenced from Valmiki Chowk and culminated from where it began. Several welcome gates were installed at different places. People partook langars served by different organisations.  Several representatives of different political, social, and religious organisations participated in the ‘Yatra’. Elaborate security arrangements were made by the police on the occasion.OC

SDM hands over relief cheques

Phagwara: Sumit Mudh, SDM, Phagwara, on Tuesday handed over two cheques for Rs five lakh  each to Gagandeep, a resident of Bhularai village, who lost his wife Rajni and daughter Navnoor, in Amritsar rail tragedy. Block Congress Committee Phagwara (Rural) Daljit Raju; Block Congress Committee  Urban) president Sanjeev Bugga; Satbir Singh Walia and sarpanch Kulwant Singh were also present on the occasion. OC

BSP activists up in arms

Phagwara: Activists of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by its Phagwara president Chiranji Lal Kala, held a march and sat on a dharna in front of the office of the SDM here on Tuesday. They were protesting against deletion of the names of 69 SC students for not depositing their fees by a private university while these students were studying under the post-matric scholarship scheme. —OC
