A major fire broke out at Sanjeev Fabrics situated in Veer Nagar, Bahadur K Road on Thursday morning. Goods and machinery worth several lakhs is said to have gutted in the fire. However, the exact loss figure is yet to be ascertained by the owner.

As per the available information, initially the factory labourers noticed the smoke billowing out of the first floor after which the the factory owner was informed who further called the fire brigade. Some labourers were also working inside the factory and they had to run outside to save their lives. Since the fire had started at the first floor. Due to its high intensity, it also engulfed the entire second floor.

Sources said the fire erupted before 6 in the morning. 10 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. “Since fire had also reached the second floor, firemen faced tough time to douse the flame. It was only when the firemen went on the roof of the adjoining factory that they managed to douse the flame at the second floor,” the fire officials said.

Situation also turned challenging for the firemen as building had also developed cracks due to which firemen were treading cautiously.

It took them almost seven hours to completely douse the flame. The station fire officer SN Sharma said short circuit could be the cause of fire but the exact reason could not be ascertained. 

On being asked if the fire arrangements were in place inside the factory, Sharma said the fire extinguishers were seen inside the factory but it was yet to be verified whether the factory owner had fire NOC or not.

On being asked if the ire officials said if the owner were found running the factory without the fire NOC, action could be recommended against him as per the law.
