Baisoya in ‘fake’ degree row

NEW DELHI:The Congress' student wing NSUI alleged that the newly-elected president of the Delhi University (DU), Ankiv Baisoya of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has submitted “fake" marksheet and certificate of Thiruvalluvar University (TU) to secure admission in MA in Buddhist Studies in Delhi University — an allegation rubbished by the right-leaning ABVP calling it nothing but a “slander campaign” by the NSUI.

The Congress' student wing NSUI alleged that the newly-elected president of the Delhi University (DU), Ankiv Baisoya of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has submitted “fake" marksheet and certificate of Thiruvalluvar University (TU) to secure admission in MA in Buddhist Studies in Delhi University — an allegation rubbished by the right-leaning ABVP calling it nothing but a “slander campaign” by the NSUI.

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) wants Baisoya be expelled for allegedly indulging in “forgery”. It released a letter from TU sent in response to a communication dated September 7, 2018 from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

“It is informed that the copy of the BA certificate of Baisoya (registration no. TVU/BA/500203) has been verified and found that the said certificate is not genuine. It is a fake certificate,” read the response from the varsity’s Controller of examinations to the Congress’ Tamil Nadu unit.

NSUI’s national secretary Farooqui claimed that the Thiruvalluvar University has clearly denied having enrolled a student of such name saying no marksheet of such serial number is in its record.

The ABVP is following the footsteps of their parent organisation RSS and also BJP where the candidates contest and win the election by “unfair means”, alleged the NSUI leader. He added that the NSUI will carry out a demonstration at Arts Faculty of the North Campus tomorrow demanding that the DU administration takes strict action and file an FIR against him.

“Incumbent on DU admin to investigate and expel Baisoya if certificate fake,” said Ruchi Gupta, NSUI national in-charge.

However, the ABVP termed the NSUI allegation “propaganda” and Baisoya is contemplating legal action.

ABVP’s national media convenor Monika Chaudhary questioned the authenticity of the documents, shared as purported communication from the Thiruvalluvar University.

“The letter circulated by the NSUI didn't mention any letter no and date.... Its simply a propaganda by NSUI,” she said adding that the DU must verify documents of all DUSU officebearers to stop future rumours.

“Delhi University gave admission to Basoya after due verification of its documents.... Even today DU has all the right to verify documents of any student enrolled in university. But, it is not the job of NSUI to provide certificates to any person,” the ABVP leader said.

The DU administration could not be reached for a response.
