New Delhi, March 23

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla today held meeting through video conferencing with state DGPs and asked them to ensure strict implementation of lockdown order in their respective jurisdictions.

The direction to the DGPs has come following reports that in places people continued to venture out despite prohibitory orders in view of the Covid outbreak, officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, adding the Union Home Secretary directed the DGPs to strictly implement lockdown in their respective states.

The Central and state governments on Sunday announced lockdown in about more than 80 districts where at least one confirmed case of Covid was reported. As people defied the lockdown order, Punjab, Maharashtra and Puducherry governments announced curfew so that no one could venture out of their houses.
