New Delhi, February 28
In a seven-page letter, L-G VK Saxena on Wednesday lashed out at CM Arvind Kejriwal stating that not a single piece of paper was brought to his notice, officially or unofficially, on the ‘one-time water bill settlement scheme’.
Saxena highlighted that the Water, Finance and Urban Development departments fall under the CM’s jurisdiction as transferred subjects, with no involvement from the L-G. He wrote, “The Delhi Jal Board is entirely under your control; therefore, the decisions lie with you. Do not shift blame onto others.”
Referring to the 27 lakh water consumer connections, of which 10 lakh have outstanding bills, Saxena questioned the intention to favour them, implying concerns over the potential implications of such a scheme.
“I advise you that if indeed the waiving of bills, penalties, late payment surcharge and arrears of 10 lakh consumers is being contemplated, the payments made by the remaining 17 lakh consumers, who have diligently paid their bills over the years, should also be reimbursed, along with interest,” Saxena added. Kejriwal said he was ‘pained by the language’ used in the letter.
