Dr Pradeep Chowbey at Max Hospital at Saket recently has successfully performed weight reduction surgery on Mihir Jain (14), a resident of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi. He was world’s heaviest teen.

Mihir Jain’s weight was 237 kg when the doctor operated him for weight reduction.

Dr Chowbey, who is veteran bariatric surgeon, said when Mihir’s parents brought him to hospital for weight reduction surgery, he could barely stand. It was a gastric bypass surgery.

He said, “When I saw him first, I was not confident on operating him successfully. He was too heavy for that. ”

The doctor put the boy on a very low calorie diet initially because he was not confident of successful surgery. He thought the boy will not be able to follow such restrictive diet and the family will not come back to him. “To my surprise, Mihir came back to us again after four weeks. He had lost 10 KG. I suggested him to continue the same diet for the next two months which helped to reduce the weight further to 196 kg. But then we realised that for further reduction surgery will be required and posted his case for operation”, Dr Chowbey said.
