Mohali, February 19

Garments worth Rs 16 lakh and furniture were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a shop in Mataur village in Mohali here last night.

Shop owner Mukesh Yadav (30) said the fire was caused by a short circuit. He said his brother, Vicky Kumar, received burn injuries as he was present inside the shop at the time of incident.

Residents, along with the help of fire brigade, managed to douse the flames in around 30 minutes.

Mukesh, a migrant from Bihar, said he had opened the shop three-and-a-half-years ago and a robbery was also committed in his shop last year.

The police have filed a DDR under Section 427 of the Indian Penal Code.
