Chandigarh, February 26

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Sanjay Dhotre today said the Central Government is aiming for a jump of at least 20 notches in the Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA) 2021 rankings.

As Chandigarh will represent the country in the programme, the city is expected to leave behind 20 countries out of at least total 80 countries participating in PISA.

About 5,250 students from Chandigarh will be taken as a sample randomly a few days before the test in April 2021.

India was ranked second last among the 73 countries in PISA held in 2009. It is now participating after 10 years gap. Chandigarh will be participating along with countries such as Brazil, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia in PISA 2021.

“PISA must not be seen as a competition, it a long term strategy for building a competency based education system,” Ghotre said.

Textbooks for mathematics, science, English and Hindi are mapped to the NCERT curriculum and will serve as a ready support for the teachers are being developed.

These contain detailed learning outcomes both identified by NCERT and developed by subject expert teams. They also have experiential learning- teaching techniques, pedagogical/lesson plan, innovative activities to facilitate learning.

These textbooks have been energised by linking them to QR codes so that new content can be added on a periodic basis making more innovative content available for the teachers’ support.
