Dharamsala, February 22
Senior Congress leader GS Bali today alleged that the BJP government was biased against Kangra district. While addressing mediapersons at Kangra, he said that the district had not been granted any major development project by the state government.
He said Kangra had been kept out of the BRICS bank project for developing water supply schemes, while it had already been dropped from the Rs 1,100-crore horticulture development project. Even some BJP MLAs had raised their voice against it.
The Chief Minister, during a recent tour to the district, had to admit that he was not getting support from party leaders in Kangra. “All this clearly shows that the present government does not take care of the interests of the biggest district of the state,” said Bali.
He alleged that most of the announcements made by the Chief Minister for Kangra district in the last two years had not been fulfilled. “During his election campaign for the Dharamsala byelection, the Chief Minister had announced that he would give a gift to the Dharamsala region. That gift has not been delivered to date. The Chief Minister has been giving himself the credit for organising the Global Investors’ Meet at Dharamsala in Kangra district. However, Kangra district has not received any major investment after the convention,” he said.
Bali added that it was unfortunate that the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP, was agitating across the state. “In Kangra, ABVP activists recently locked down the temporary campus of Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP). It seems that even the BJP cadre have become disenchanted with the state government,” he said.
“The BJP has been in power in Himachal for more than two years. The party also has government at the Centre. The Chief Minister should explain to the people of Kangra why land has not been allotted for the CUHP campus?” he said.
