Accused held in UP village after 10 days

The police have finally nabbed the accused labourer in the brutal rape and murder case of a three-year-old.

Sunil (20), who had more than 1,000 police personnel chasing him, was picked up from Magarpur village in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh by the SIT headed by now transferred DCP (Crime) Sumit Kuhar.

According to a senior investigator as the accused could not be nabbed in the city, the police started getting details of his relatives and they got to know about his sister living in Gwalior. The police landed at her house and his brother-in-law helped the police in activating a mega intelligence network. Later, they received information that he was spotted at a community kitchen at Bhairav Mandir in Gwalior. The police rushed to catch him, but he had fled. Due to extensive network of CCTV cameras of the city police, his route was traced to the railway station where he was seen boarding a train to Jhansi. A team led Sub-Inspector Rajkumar left for Jhansi expecting to find him at Magarpur village where one of his relatives resides and he was eventually caught from Khera Pati temple where he went to sleep after having food.

“He has been caught and will reach the city in the wee hours. This was not a mere case, but something personal for all of us as the entire force after seeing the girl’s plight realised that a rapist was on the loose and no child was safe including ours. We have not slept for the past 10 days and mobilised our intelligence network across states and managed to nab him,” said Sumit Kuhar.

The body of the girl was found in Sector 65 here on November 8. The girl had been brutally raped. The accused even inserted a wooden stick into her private parts and hit her with a brick several times before strangulating her with a polybag.

“He has been arrested and we will assure speedy investigation and then speedy justice through fast-track court,” said Commissioner of Police KK Rao.
