Rewari/Jhajjar, June 27
The Congress workers today staged a dharna near Rajeev Chowk in Rewari and mini secretariat in Jhajjar against the Agnipath scheme.
Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda led the dharna in both places. Former minister and Congress OBC cell national chairman Capt Ajay Yadav in Rewari while Congress MLAs — Geeta Bhukkal and Raghuvir Singh Kadian — accompanied Deepender in Jhajjar.
Addressing the protesters, Deepender said the Congress workers would not let the Army as well as the country weaken, hence they were demanding the withdrawal of the scheme with immediate effect as it was not in the nation’s interest. “The Congress will strongly oppose it,” he added.
Capt Yadav said recruitment in the Army remained closed for the past three years, while the Central government had mocked the youth by coming up with the Agnipath scheme.
In Jhajjar, Bhukkal demanded regular recruitment in the Army, stating that the scheme was not only anti-nation but also anti-youth, hence it should be withdrawn without further delay.
