Karnal, February 4

Priya Gupta of Karnal city has secured the third rank in the Haryana Civil Services (Judicial Branch) examination 2017 with 618 marks. The 24-year-old stood sixth in Rajasthan judiciary exam last year and also qualified for the Delhi judiciary exam.

Priya completed her five-year law course from Panjab University in 2019 and started preparing for the exams during the last year of her course from an institute in Chandigarh. She gives the credit of her success to the support of her family and consistent efforts.

“I studied 7-8 hours regularly and cracked HCS (judicial) in my first attempt after completing my final year,” she beams. Ask her what her success mantra is and pat comes the reply, “Stay away from social media.”

During exam time and while preparing, Priya stayed away from social media, which she considers a distraction for students. “I uninstalled social media apps during exams and re-installed them later. Social media distracts us from our goal and we should keep away from it during examinations.”

And what would she like to tell youngsters? “Don’t give up and keep chasing your dreams with hard work, patience and honesty. That’s exactly what I did,” she signs off.

Advocate-father her inspiration

Priya’s father Rajinder Kumar Gupta and brother Mehul Gupta are advocates in the district bar, while her mother Anita Gupta is a homemaker and her elder sister Priyanka is married. “My father is my inspiration to become a judge,” she says. “The judiciary is a noble and honourable profession. People impose faith in you and trust your wisdom to do the right thing.”
