Shimla, September 17
The steep surge in Covid cases continued unabated with 395 new cases today, taking the tally to 11,190. Seven persons died of Covid during the day.
In the last 24 hours, two deaths each took place in Shimla and Kullu districts and one each in Mandi, Chamba and Kangra districts. With these seven deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of Covid related fatality has risen to 96.
The highest number of 82 positive cases was reported in Sirmaur, followed by 76 in Kangra, 70 in Mandi, 49 in Solan, 38 in Una, 30 in Shimla, 15 in Lahaul-Spiti, 13 in Kullu, 12 in Bilaspur, seven in Chamba and three in Hamirpur.
Two deaths in Mandi
Two Covid patients died at Nerchowk Medical College in Mandi in the last 24 hours. Meena Devi (50), a resident of Madadu village in Balh tehsil, and Kanshi Ram (52), a resident of Taksera village in Sundernagar, died of the virus.
Dr Jeevanand Chauhan, Senior Medical Superintendent of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk in Mandi, said that Kanshi Ram was suffering from acute myeloid leukemia and suffered cardiac arrest Wednesday night. Meena Devi was on a ventilator for the last few days but she could not survive.
82 cases in Sirmaur
Sirmaur saw a big surge of 82 cases on Thursday. Most of the cases, mainly contacts of Covid patients, were reported in Paonta Sahib and Nahan.
20 containment zones in Una
Four positive cases were reported in Una. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar notified 20 new containment zones in various parts of the district.
34 cases in Kangra
Thirty-four persons tested positive for coronavirus in Kangra district on Thursday. Most of the cases were detected in rural areas.
Coop bank hdqrs sealed
The headquarters of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank (KCCB) was sealed after an employee of the IT section tested positive on Wednesday. Chairman of the bank Rajiv Bhardwaj said the employees of the IT section in the headquarters had been quarantined. Their samples would be taken. The contact tracing of the employee had also been done and the head office had been sanitised.
