Himachal Police booked 12 people for having hidden their travel to Nizamuddin Markaz, officials said.
The 12 people, all of who attended Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the national capital, were booked for disobeying an order by a public servant (Section 188), and for doing an act that could spread infectious disease (Section 269 and 270) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Disaster Management Act.
Eight of the 12 who face criminal charges are from Chamba.
The development comes hours after police’s warning that they should come forward to provide details of their attendance to the congregation or face criminal action. Fifty-two people are believed to have provided details of their recent travels, both within and outside the country.
Some 21 people have so far been arrested violating curfew orders in the state and also for deliberately concealing their travel history. The 52 persons include those who disclosed facts themselves and relatives and neighbours who shared related information.
Authorities said some 329 Tablighi Jamaat members have been identified and quarantined so far.
