Industrialists have urged the new government to do away with certain taxes levied by the state despite the GST implementation.

CS Kapoor, additional convener of the state BJP industrial cell, said despite paying the GST, they were made to pay additional goods tax. They said the tax was being imposed on goods coming to the state or being transported out. “Despite there being a single taxation system, the traders were being forced to pay additional goods tax, which was unfair.

Kapoor said certain goods carried by road (CGCR) was another type of tax which was levied only in Himachal. “Since there is no rail infrastructure in Himachal, all goods have to be transported by road,” he said.

In some industrial areas which have come within the limits of urban areas, the industrialists are being forced to give double taxes. The industrial areas were developed by the Industrial Area Development Agency in the state. However, some industrial areas have come up within the limits of the municipal council. “Now, the industrialists in Mehatpur are being forced to pay tax to the agency as well as the municipal council. We hope that the new government will waive illogical taxes,” he said.
