Shimla, February 20

The patients visiting the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) faced inconvenience after doctors went on a two-and-a-half hour pen-down strike on Tuesday.

The doctors have been demanding the restoration of Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) to the new doctors who are being appointed in the state.

Doctors in hospitals across the state also went on strike.

Talking to The Tribune, HP Medical Officers Association (HPMOA) general secretary Vikas Thakur said on February 13, they had a meeting with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu regarding their demands. “However, no notification regarding our demands has been issued by the government and the government has not even issued minutes of the meeting even after a week,” he added.

He said they were

urging the government to restore NPA and were working in hospitals wearing black badges, but the government was only giving assurances.

“Our strike will continue till March 5. The future course of action will be decided if the government fails to meet our demand,” he said.

Meanwhile, the employees of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) who had been demanding a regular pay-scale were also on a four-hour pen-down strike which further caused inconvenience to the patients.
