The officers of the state government must work with greater commitment and zeal to ensure that ongoing projects in Chamba district are completed within the stipulated time and people benefit from these, said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here today. the CM was presiding over a meeting to review the Aspirational District Programme and other development works of the district.

The Chief Minister said that to achieve the goal of building new India, the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the NITI Aayog had selected 112 such districts in the country which were most backward in terms of development. These districts were designated as Aspirational Districts.

He said that Chamba district was included under this ambitious programme as it was felt that being a far-flung district it required greater focus in the matter of development. He said that Aspirational District Programme was launched in Chamba by the then Union Health Minister JP Nadda on January 22, 2018.

Under the programme, on the basis of certain parameters, a composite index was prepared taking into account various challenges faced by citizens in terms of poverty, malnutrition, education status and inadequate infrastructure, etc, he said.

Thakur directed the officers to motivate expectant mothers to opt for institutional delivery, besides ensuring effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritav Abhiyan.

The Chief Minister, while expressing concern over the weak telecom and internet connectivity in some parts of the district, directed the BSNL, Airtel and Jio authorities to ensure better coverage. He said that vacancies in key departments of the district would be filled on priority. The government would ensure that all functional posts were filled on priority so that the pace of development was not affected. He directed the officers of the Jal Shakti Department to lay a special thrust on providing drinking water in areas facing shortage.

Deputy Commissioner DC Rana said that the district got the second rank in the field of health and nutrition in March 2019 and the NITI Aayog provided Rs 3 crore for it. He added that again in November 2020, the district got a good rank in basic infrastructure and received Rs 3 crore from the NITI Aayog as an incentive. In September 2021, the district got an overall good rank, and received an incentive of Rs 2 crore.

Deputy Speaker Hans Raj and Chief Whip Vikram Jaryal also gave suggestions and underlined various issues of development. BJP president Suresh Kashyap and MLA Pawan Nayar also attended the meeting.
