Solan, January 14
To enhance the income of its 13 tourism units located across the state, the HP State Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has sought suggestions from its staff.
These hotels are located at prime locations in Barog, Chail, Shimla, Parwanoo, Paonta Sahib, Kullu, Manali, Dharamsala, etc., but their occupancy is quite low. As a result, these units are unable to meet their day-to-day expenditure.
HPTDC Managing Director (MD) Rajeev Kumar instructed all unit heads to take effective steps to increase occupancy while seeking suggestions at the same time. He said, “An attempt is being made to enhance the income of the tourism units of the corporation across the state. Suggestions have been sought from the staff to enhance occupancy and increase its earning.”
The MD had recently inspected some tourism units at Kasauli and Shimla to get a first-hand account of the upkeep of its hotels. According to the figures of performance for the current financial year, as against an income of Rs 7.14 crore, the corporation’s expenditure was Rs 7.64 crore. A loss of Rs 50 lakh has been calculated till now and it would rise further till March.
The corporation, however, needs to improve the culinary skills of its staff as visitors often lament its quality, especially at Barog, which is ideally located on the Kalka-Shimla national highway.
To earn some revenue, the previous BJP government had planned to lease its prime properties. The present Congress government is yet to announce any such decision.
