Local MP Ram Swaroop Sharma said that the construction work of the 191-MW Thana Plaun Hydroelectric Project to be built at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore in Mandi district would start soon.
He said that with the efforts of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, the Union Ministry of Environment had approved the project. The work on the detailed project report (DPR) of the project was also in the final stage. As soon as the DPR is approved, the land acquisition work wouldbe started.
“About 405 hectares will be required for the construction of the project. A 107-metre high dam for the project will be built on the Beas. The powerhouse will be built at 200 metres from the dam,” he added.
Sharma said that the project would not have any adverse effect on the people of the area. In fact, it would provide direct and indirect employment opportunities to the local people.
