NURPUR, NOVEMBER 10

The indefinite fast by Rajesh Pathania, president of the Four-Lane Lok Body (FLLB), entered the 13th day whereas of Ashok Pathania, another FLLB member, the sixth day today.

The FLLB has been protesting against keeping on hold the ongoing land acquisition proceedings for the Pathankot-Mandi fourlane project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) suddenly after issuing a notification.

Owing to the deteriorating health condition, Ashok and Rajesh were shifted to the local Civil Hospital yesterday by the local administration.

After undergoing certain clinical tests, doctors referred them to Tanda Medical College (TMC) today but the protesters refused the referral treatment by giving an undertaking to the hospital administration.

Meanwhile, the stir, launched by the FLLB, has been intensified when three Pathankot-Mandi four-lane affected persons, Sham Singh, Mangal Singh and Tilak Raj, started a chain hunger strike at Chogan here.

The members plead that after the notification, over 3,700 persons from Kandwal to Seuni in the Nurpur fourlane section have landed in trouble. They had raised bank loans for their rehabilitation at other places and started construction their houses and business establishments. But after stalling the proceedings, they are now unable to repay their bank loans and banks have started serving them notices. They are also demanding directions to their bankers for not harassing them until compensation is not given to the affected people.

Rajesh told mediapersons that the government was playing politics with them. He alleged that their agitation was being sabotaged. He had resorted to such extreme step for justice to the fourlane affected persons.

“We can to go any extent if we are forced to shift to the TMC, Kangra, for which thegovernment and the administration will be responsible,” he warned.
