Sirmaur district has received the top rating in the state in environment and health indices by the Centre’s Public Affairs Centre (PAC).
Deputy Commissioner, Sirmaur, Lalit Jain, said the centre had, however, stressed the need to pay attention to other parameters like potable water and condition of roads which were not found appropriate.
He said these issues would be raised with the state government so that improvements could be made in these two sectors to make available better facilities to the people.
They had asked the Bangalore-based PAC to rank its development works in the district so as to assess the gaps and undertake corrective steps.
As per preliminary assessment made by Programme Officer Udita Dutta, the district has a low mother-infant mortality rate and health services too have been rated good.
Apart from this, no case of dowry death of a women has been reported. The rate of institutional delivery is also found good. In the field of education, the district has admitted 100 per cent handicapped children in schools and it is leading in the field of providing education.
