The Himachal High Court has granted two weeks more to the state for filing a status report informing therein the future mechanism ensuring the timely recruitment of teachers along with the existing vacancies and those anticipated within six months.
A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua listed the matter for further hearing on June 26.
During the course of hearing, the state had sought time to file a fresh status report regarding the steps taken by it to fill the posts of teacher in the state. The court passed this order on a public interest litigation regarding a shortage of teachers.
In its earlier affidavit filed by the Principal Secretary (Education), it was stated that the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission had recommended names for 328 posts of TGT (arts), 208 posts of TGT (non-medical) and 95 posts of TGT (medical) against the requisition sent by the department on June 27, 2017.
Out of these, 327 candidates of TGT (arts) were given offer letters on January 8 this year. The remaining appointments would be made soon.
