New Delhi, February 21
People belonging to the Sikh community staged a protest in front of the BJP office in Kolkata on Wednesday, expressing solidarity with the IPS officer who had alleged that party leader Suvendu Adhikari called him “Khalistani”.
Adhikari, along with BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, dismissed the allegation that anyone from the party called IPS officer Jaspreet Singh a “Khalistani”. “No one has abused him or used the word ‘Khalistani’. He is trying to make an issue,” Paul has said. Adhikari has also accused the TMC of diverting attention from developments in Sandeshkhali.
The IPS officer was deputed to prevent Adhikari from visiting the restive Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.
Protests were also held in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman district.
