Jalandhar, October 12

A ragpicker spotted two foetuses in a garbage dump near Khalsa School on the Nakodar road here today.

The foetuses were wrapped in a polythene bag. Residents of the area informed the police after after an alarm was raised by the ragpicker.

SHO, Bhargo Camp, Balwinder Singh, said the foetuses were apparently thrown in the dump around 4 am.

The embryos have been sent for autopsy. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons and are verifying CCTV camera footages of nearby areas to nab the culprits.

In the recent past, two newborn babies were thrown at garbage dumps. In the previous month, a two-day-old girl was spotted at an isolated place at Kalia Colony. The baby was found safe. However, culprits are still at large in the case.

SHO, Rashminder Singh, Maqsudan police division, said such cases of abandoning infants had been increasing in the city.
