Chugh questions Cong choice of Kamal Nath as MP Chief Minister

The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today hailed the verdict of the Delhi High Court convicting and sentencing senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 Sikh genocide case.

Tarun Chugh, national secretary of the party, however, demanded stricter punishment for Sajjan Kumar claiming that the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots started getting justice only after Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister of the country and constituted an SIT to look into the matter.

Chugh also questioned Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s decision to first campaign for and now attend the swearing-in ceremony of Kamal Nath, a senior Congress leader, accused of leading mobs in 1984. “Sidhu has rubbed salt on the wounds of the families of the victims of 1984 by agreeing to be a part of the ceremony,” he said, adding that Sikh leaders of the Congress need to explain their support to Kamal Nath.

The BJP leader said the Congress had created terror on the roads of the national capital in 1984 and that Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, HKL Bhagat and Kamal Nath were named as the major instigators. Saying that only Sajjan Kumar has been brought to book by the law, Chugh hoped that nemesis will catch up with Tytler and Kamal Nath too.

Chugh slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi for approving the name of Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

“This is a proof of Rahul’s anti-Sikh policy. He has proved once again that the Gandhi family was throughout protecting the perpetrators of the 1984 genocide,” he said.

The BJP leader said both the Nanavati Commission and the Mishra Commission, in their reports, had confirmed the involvement of Tytler and Kamal Nath in the 1984 riots but successive Congress governments at the Centre had brushed the reports under the carpet to save them.

Chugh claimed the Modi government was committed to providing justice to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He hoped the SIT would continue its fact-based investigation against Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath so that they too are brought to book by the law.
