While temperature dipped to sub-zero in neighbouring SBS Nagar district in Doaba region this morning, Jalandhar also witnessed one of the coldest mornings today with temperature dipping below 5 degree Celsius.

Cold or severe cold conditions for 2 days

Amidst an alert for a severe cold day on Monday, the next two days - Tuesday and Wednesday - are also expected to witness cold or severe cold conditions. On Monday (January 15), the minimum temperature in Jalandhar was recorded at 4 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 10 degree Celsius as the sun shone briefly this afternoon.

People advised to exercise caution

Amidst a red alert, which remained in place on Monday and an orange alert for Tuesday, the Met Department has asked people to exercise caution, not to remain outdoors for long periods of time and keep themselves covered with adequate woollens to weather the impact of the cold wave.

Amidst an alert for a severe cold day on Monday, the next two days - Tuesday and Wednesday - are also expected to witness cold or severe cold conditions. On Monday (January 15), the minimum temperature in Jalandhar was recorded at 4 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 10 degree Celsius as the sun shone briefly this afternoon.

Barring the sun peaking out only for a few minutes at noon, the day remained mostly chilly and fog prevailed. Temperature dipped further in the evening as it remained largely foggy.

Cold wave and foggy conditions, especially in morning hours, are expected to persist till January 18 after which there will be a slight rise in temperature.

On Tuesday too, minimum temperature is expected to be 4 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to be around 12 degree Celsius.

On January 17 and January 18, fog and mist have been predicted for morning and clear skies later in the day. Jalandhar is expected to have partly cloudy skies with temperatures seeing a marginal rise between January 19 and 21.

While the extreme cold also coincided with Lohri festival, various do-gooders have been out on streets to provide woollens and blankets to the poor in the city.
