DC, SSP thank voters for smooth conduct of polls

Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal on Wednesday thanked the voters, poll and security staff, candidates and political parties for cooperating in organising the free, fair and peaceful elections for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti in the district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal on Wednesday thanked the voters, poll and security staff, candidates and political parties for cooperating in organising the free, fair and peaceful elections for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti in the district.

The officials, who regularly kept a vigil over the entire situation by visiting the key and vulnerable polling booths, ensured that people do not face any sort of problem in exercising their franchise. The officials thanked the brave and wise people of the district for once again upholding the glorious tradition of exercising their franchise freely.

They said peaceful turn out by the voters reflect the love that Punjabis have for their democratic rights. The officials said the polling was largely peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth in the assembly constituency.

They said no major incident of violence was reported during the voting that started at 8 am and was completed at 4 pm.

The officials said elaborate security arrangements had been made for polling and around 12,000 personnel from civil and police administration were deployed at all 1,206 polling booths. ADC Jitendra Jorwal, SDM Paramveer Singh, District Guidance Counsellor Surjit Lal, among others, were also present on the occasion.
