Dry day for 48 hours before Shahkot bypoll

JALANDHAR: The ECI has announced dry day during the 48 hours, ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll with respect to the polling day for the Shahkot bypoll, scheduled to be held on May 28.

The ECI has announced dry day during the 48 hours, ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll with respect to the polling day for the Shahkot bypoll, scheduled to be held on May 28.

District Election Officer Varinder Kumar Sharma said the period of dry day had been declared and notified under the relevant state laws as is appropriate during the 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of poll with respect to polling day. This would also include the date of re-poll, if any.

The period from 6.00 pm on May 26 to 6.00 pm on May 28 and the whole day of May 31, result day, would be the dry days in the polling area of the Shahkot Assembly constituency and 3 kms adjoining are of the respective constituency as per the directions of the Election Commission of India, he said.

He said no liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishment selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell/serve liquor to anyone whosoever on the days.

He also made it clear that non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession of any supply of liquor should also not be permitted to serve liquor on these days.

The storage of liquor by individuals shall be curtailed during the above period and the restrictions provided in the excise low on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced.
