A man was booked for stashing illegal drugs, including habit-forming drugs and cannabis, at his medical shop during late night raids by the Drug Department here today.
During the inspection at the shop, 55 types of drugs were seized by the team under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and seven kinds of intoxicants and habit-forming drugs were also found stocked.
The owner of the shop, Sarabjit Singh, was booked under the NDPS Act by the police.
The intoxicants found at the establishment included tramadol injections and bhola munakka (cannabis), which illegal in the state and commonly supplied to youth in the name of ayurvedic medicine.
As many as 3,167 tablets, 240 capsules, 145 injections, 36 syrups, 185 needles, 107 syringes were seized from the shop. While Sarabjit had been running the shop for the past 15 years in the village, he also had a former case of NDPS Act registered against him for operating without a licence.
Sources said he owns three houses and various properties in the area and had been operating without a licence.
The raid was conducted by a team comprising Drug Inspectors Anupama Kalia and Amarjit Singh and Dinesh Kumar, Senior Assistant, along with JP Singh, intelligence officer, NCB, and a police team of the Special Task Force, Jalandhar range, on the premises of the shop at Kala Bakra village in Jalandhar.
An FIR was registered under Sections 20, 21 and 61 of the NDPS Act against Sarabjit.
