Magical toy for national fair!

Creating magic through numbers Jatinder Singh Pabla, a state awardee and math master at Government Senior Secondary School, Mallupota, Nawanshahr, with his 'Magic Square Game', which was selected for the National Toy Fair.

Coming as a matter of great pride, a ‘Magic Square Game’ prepared by Jatinder Singh Pabla, a state awardee and mathematics master at Government Senior Secondary School, Mallupota, has been selected for the first ever National Toy Fair being organised virtually from February 27 to March 4. Explaining the working of his toy, Pabla said: “My toy is a 4x4 square, which can be used even for competition between two players for setting a pattern according to date of birth. I prepared it using the date of birth of ace mathematician Ramanujan which was December 22, 1887. I made a five-minute video of it and sent it for the online toy fair. It has already been screened there.” Other than the game, some mechanical toys prepared by the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Nawanshahr, have also been selected. These toys have been readied by Jaswinder Singh, Gursimran Kaur and Isha under the guidance of their science teacher Sanjiv Duggal. The SCERT had invited online entries from different districts for participating in the National Toy Fair. Nearly 15 educational toys were screened online.

Central team reviews rising Covid cases

In view of an increasing number of students and teachers at Nawanshahr schools testing positive for Coronavirus, a Central team visited the town on Monday. The members met Deputy Commissioner Dr Shena Agarwal and Civil Surgeon Dr Gurdeep Singh Kapoor and discussed the situation and measures being taken to contain the spread. The team comprised Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, GOI, Dr Lakshmi from the School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Dr Ashutosh from the PGI. The team stressed on intensifying testing, making home quarantine mandatory and doing 100 per cent sampling in containment zones. They also visited containment zone Kariam in Muzaffarpur block.

Of Prashant Kishore and his Re1 salary

The appointment of media strategist Prashant Kishor as the Principal Adviser of Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh recently has drawn flak from various corners. Nawanshahr-based activist Parvinder Kitna was quick to react to the news as he commented: “Punjab does not need any strategy. Punjab is for elections”. This post became very popular. But soon this followed with another jibe coming from him: “May God save us from people who take Re 1 salary. Parkash Singh Badal and his cabinet also took only Re 1 salary in one tenure but Punjab has not yet come back. One rupee of Prashant Kishore is not known to Punjab in how many crores-billions.” The second one drew even more response.
