Projects worth Rs 1,200 crore get nod from CLAF

JALANDHAR: The City Level Advisory Forum (CLAF) for the Smart City project today gave in principle approval for projects worth Rs 1,200 crore to be executed in Jalandhar for giving a facelift to the city in the coming days.

The City Level Advisory Forum (CLAF) for the Smart City project today gave in principle approval for projects worth Rs 1,200 crore to be executed in Jalandhar for giving a facelift to the city in the coming days.

A meeting of officials of CLAF was held here at the District Administrative Complex. Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh; MLAs Pargat Singh, Sushil Kumar Rinku and Rajinder Beri; Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma; Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar; Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja; MC Commissioner Diprava Lakra and Chief Executive Officer of the Smart City Project, Vishesh Sarangal, were among those present.

It was decided at the meeting that after a few amendments, the proposal of the Smart City project would be send to the Central Government for final clearance.

A cheque for Rs 6.53 crore was also given to the Education Department for the construction of Smart e-classrooms in the district under the project. It was also decided that the Integrated Command Control Centre, that was necessary for the safety of people, would be made operational within six months. The centre would be equipped with around 1,200 CCTV cameras that would keep a vigil in every nook and corner of the city and help check the crime rate.

Consent was also given for the installation of rooftop solar plants on government buildings, road sweeping machines, security in inner areas, green area development, improvement of façade of the city station, installation of escalator, smart roads, smart parking, disaster management plan, construction of public toilets, optical fibre and Wi-Fi spots, CNG autos, e-rickshaws, way finding and traffic signage, cycle tracks, traffic management and facility for pedestrian GIS mapping, solid waste management, tree pruning sewage recycling machines, smart bus stops, smart buses, smart parking, digital library, water supply infrastructure augmentation, sewerage infrastructure, storm water drainage infrastructure and rainwater harvesting, besides other items.
